Prague, June 29, 2016 – Mitas, part of Trelleborg Group, as a main sponsor of the Mountain Bike World Championship at Nové Město na Moravě, will offer a limited edition series of racing tyres made using TEXTRA technology. The sidewalls of the tyres will include a special Union Cycliste International (UCI) label.
In the TEXTRA technology, used for Mitas premium racing bicycle tyres, a very dense and extremely strong rubberized fabric is applied on tyre sidewalls and around tyre edges during the production process. This significantly increases tyre resistance against side punctures, while having a minimal impact on the weight of the tyre. TEXTRA technology tyres have been designed for extremely difficult racing environments to provide maximum possible reliability, while preserving excellent riding parameters.
Zdeňka Jílková, Director of sales at Mitas Velo, says: “The new TEXTRA technology, which we use for the protection of the Mitas tyre sidewalls, has proven successful under the most demanding conditions in such prestigious races as Cape Epic. More than four hundred riders on Mitas tyres made it to the finish line.”
“We believe that the high quality of TEXTRA technology will also be demonstrated during the Mountain Bike World Championship here at Nové Město na Moravě.”
Expectations for the Mountain Bike World Championship at Nové Město na Moravě are high. Mitas team rider Jan Škarnitzl, leader of the Czech mountain bike championship and nominee for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, is one of the main favorites. In the women´s category, the Mitas team will be represented by rising star of Czech mountain biking, Jana Czeczinkarová. In addition, many other excellent cyclists will join the race as Mitas team riders.
Mitas specializes in agricultural, industrial, motorcycle and bicycle tyres. Mitas entered the cycling market in April 2015 when it re-branded bicycle tyres and tubes formerly marketed under the Rubena brand name. Mitas bicycle tyres have successfully continued the long tradition of the Rubena brand by sponsoring important bicycle events and also by developing new technologies. Mitas as well as Rubena were part of the portfolio of ČGS Holding, which became a part of the Trelleborg Group in June 2016.
Apart from its premium products, such as racing tyres made using the TEXTRA technology, Mitas has confirmed its place in this segment of the market as the Official tyre Partner of the Cape Epic mountain bike stage race in South Africa in 2015 and 2016. Mitas was also the main partner of the Czech road cycling national team at the UCI Road World Championship Richmond 2015 in the U.S.
